Product Certifications: SCA Certified, ETL certified

SCA Certified

Bonavita meets the stringent standards of the SCA, which recognizes home coffee brewers that meet their rigorous technical requirements and qualifications for the SCA Golden Cup. These requirements - which include proper temperature - are based on decades of industry expertise by the Coffee Brewing Center.

As a leader in setting the industry standards for SCA certification of brewers, Bonavita brewers are universally recognized as exemplary home brewers and are used by judges in World Coffee Competitions.

Descaling

We recommend descaling the brewer at least once every 100 uses. If you have hard water, descaling more often is recommended. We recommend using a good quality biodegradable and phosphate-free coffee machine descaler. (Please note: Descaler should not be confused with Cleaner. They serve different purposes.) Descaler is designed to break down mineral buildup inside your brewer to ensure great coffee and consistent functionality. Follow the descaler manufacturer instructions for use. (We do not recommend using vinegar to clean or descale your brewer. Vinegar may not effectively descale your brewer, and can be difficult to rinse thoroughly. Vinegar may also leave behind an odor that can impact the flavor of your coffee.)

If your brewer is steaming more than usual, it is time to descale

Enthusiast 8 Cup Brewer…

A very nice coffee maker! It was time to replace my old Bonavita system that had served me well for over 5 years. I opted for the Enthusiast model and enjoyed a 20% military discount from the company. I could not be happier with my new coffee maker! Good looks, very well built and makes a fine cup of coffee! Thank you, Bonavita!

Great coffee, nice design

I am the new owner of the Enthusiast model. Overall, I am very pleased. Great design, easy to use and makes a very good cup of coffee. I gave it on.y 4 stars, as I wish the coffee from the carafe was hotter (even after just brewing), and I do find the lid on the carafe a bit difficult to remove to clean - neither of these things would keep me from recommending purchase.
If you want a sleek and fairly compact auto brewer making great coffee give this a try.

It's Perfect

Purchased the beautiful Matte Black version 06/23 for my wife and I. Everything about this version is improved upon the original. The basket hangs from the machine as opposed to sitting on the carafe, there's a specific bloom/pre-infusion button, the carafe pours well and holds hot for hours (broke my themopen but it seems to hold drinkably hot for 4+ hours), the water tank on the back removes easily and requires very little clearance to take on and off. There are even little markings on the water tank that suggest coffee amounts in grams for brew size.

Did some preliminary testing to create a basic brew for my non-coffee nerds wife. The minimum suggested brew size is 4 "cups" which ends up being 22 oz or 5.5 oz per cup. After brewing, the coffee yield is somewhere around 20oz after absorption. Found that 1 rounded cup of beans/grounds from a 2TBS standard coffee scoop at ~15g a scoop is a pretty good start for every 2 cups. So 2 scoops for 4 a cup brew works pretty well to start off with when you're bleary eyed in the morning and don't want to deal with weighing out. Your mileage with this rule may vary.

With the thermal carafe it means your coffee stays hot and not scalded over time. Anything we don't drink gets transferred to a Nalgene in the fridge for delicious iced coffee later. No waste, bonus iced coffee :)

5 Stars, would highly recommend. It's obviously kind of expensive but you're getting a coffee machine that's on the cheaper side of the SCA Golden Cup list and in my opinion the prettiest machine in the whole Bonavita line up.

Cheers
