They are currently being cultivated on a larger scale in the USA, Iran, Syria, Turkey, and China. California produces 98.5% of the nation's pistachios.

In Iran it is called the "smiling pistachio" and in China the "happy nut."

One serving (2 tbsp) contains:

  • 10% of Potassium
  • 10% of Magnesium
  • 16% of Phosphorus
  • 19% of Thiamin
  • 28% Vitamin B6

Pistachio Nutrition & Health

Like most nuts, pistachios are naturally cholesterol free, gluten free, low in saturated fat and are a low glycemic-index food. They are good source of protein, fiber, healthy fats, vitamins & minerals and particularly:
  • Excellent source of Vitamin E: This antioxidant vitamin helps to maintain the integrity of cell membranes in the skin. It also protects skin from UV damage, defending against premature aging and skin cancer.
  • Excellent source of Vitamin B6: This vitamin helps maintain a healthy nervous system as well as playing an important role in immunity by ensuring production of white blood cells that defend the body from infection.
  • Contain carotenoids: Carotenoids act as antioxidants which protect the eye from free radical damage.
  • Excellent source of copper: One serving contains 40% of daily value. Copper is an essential trace mineral that is required in neurotransmission, metabolism, as well as red blood cell (RBC) production.
